DAOs, DEXs and whales? How Web3 organizations became the new crypto beasts
Web3 has brought a lot of excitement into the industry, as evidenced by the nearly $50 billion market capitalization Web3 tokens have grown in recent years. The very ethos of Web3 is one of its most attractive traits. It is an ecosystem free from barriers or intermediaries, welcoming to anyone from anywhere and open anytime.
However, there is one massive problem: There is no infrastructure within decentralized finance (DeFi) robust enough to execute these large orders in an entirely decentralized manner, as the use of centralized exchanges contradicts the decentralized nature of the decentralized autonomous organization, or DAO. Let’s unpack the relationship between DAOs and decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and how a specialized DEX could benefit DAOs now and in the future.
Commissioner Kristin Johnson to sponsor CFTC Market Risk Advisory Committee
United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) commissioner Kristin N. Johnson was named the sponsor of the agency’s Market Risk Advisory Committee (MRAC) on Tuesday. She replaced CFTC chair Rostin Behnam in that role.
Johnson was nominated to be a CFTC commissioner by U.S. President Joe Biden in September 2021, concurrent to the nominations of commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero and acting chairman Behnam as the permanent chair. Johnson was sworn in on March 30. She moved into the position after spending over a decade as a law professor. Johnson is the author of academic papers in which she has advocated for stricter controls over cryptocurrency. Johnson said in a statement:
Crypto users react to Terraform Labs legal team purportedly leaving company
The ongoing saga with Terraform Labs, the blockchain developer behind Terra (LUNA), took a turn following a supposed change in employment status for many on the firm’s legal team.
According to their LinkedIn profiles, Terraform Labs general counsel Marc Goldich, chief litigation and regulatory counsel Noah Axler and chief corporate counsel Lawrence Florio have all stopped working for the blockchain firm as of May 2022. Goldich started at Terraform Labs in August 2021 while Axler and Florio joined in January 2022.
Do Kwon proposes Terra hard fork to save ecosystem
On Monday, Do Kwon, co-founder of the troubled Terra Luna blockchain, announced a revised plan to restore the ecosystem after a combination of significant market volatility and inherent protocol design flaws wiped out a vast majority of the blockchain’s market cap. As told by Kwon, Terraform Labs will put forth a new governance proposal on May 18 to fork the Terra Luna blockchain called Terra (token name: LUNA).
However, the new chain will not be linked to the TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin. Meanwhile, the old Terra blockchain will continue to exist with UST and will be called Terra Classic (LUNC). Under Kwon’s plan, if passed, the new LUNA blockchain will go live on May 27.
