Bloomberg: Turkey Starts to Let Russian Oil Tankers Through its Straits

The queue of Russian oil tankers waiting to transport oil through the straits of Turkey’s Bosphorus and Dardanelles has begun to diminish. It could mean that Ankara has resolved the situation with the insurance of vessels with oil, reports Bloomberg.
As the agency writes about the list of transit ports, 19 crude oil tankers were waiting for passage through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits on December 11, at that the day before there were 27 vessels in line.
Bloomberg’s source in the shipping industry confirmed that previously blocked tankers are now being allowed through.
Turkish authorities had earlier demanded confirmation letters from insurance companies for oil tankers planning to pass through the straits.
However, on December 10, according to the agency, Ankara sent out a sample letter to insurers that it would find acceptable. According to the agency’s interlocutor, the letter was similar to versions already presented to Turkish authorities. The agency believes that this may indicate that a solution to this situation has been found.
On December 9, the Turkish General Directorate of Navigation stated that the traffic jam at the entrance to the Bosphorus was formed because the European insurance companies refused to provide letters of insurance for the passage of oil tankers through the strait.
Earlier we reported that Saudi Arabia said that there were no visible results of the oil price ceiling from Russia.
