Chinese aluminum production reached a record 3.51 million tons in August

Chinese aluminum production in August reached a record high for the second consecutive month at 3.51 million tons, up 9.6% over the same period last year. The reason for that was the commissioning of new production capacity, which more than offset the negative effects of reduced electricity consumption in some regions of the country.
According to data released Friday by China’s National Bureau of Statistics, aluminum production in August rose 2.3 percent from 3.43 million metric tons in July. The country’s annual growth in aluminum production remains strong.
How much aluminum does China produce? China produced 26.47 million tons of aluminum in the first eight months of the year, up 2.1 percent from the same period a year earlier.
Total production of 10 base metals, including copper, aluminum, lead, zinc and nickel, rose 6.7% to 5.74 million tons in August from the same period a year earlier. This is the highest figure since January 2021.
