Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.06%

Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Transportation Equipment and Insurance sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.06%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Corp., which rose 3.72% or 258.00 points to trade at 7,200.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. added 3.31% or 184.00 points to end at 5,748.00 and SoftBank Group Corp. was up 2.84% or 185.00 points to 6,691.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sompo Holdings Inc, which fell 5.34% or 348.00 points to trade at 6,167.00 at the close. Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. declined 5.09% or 173.00 points to end at 3,226.00 and MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings was down 4.83% or 254.00 points to 5,006.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1777 to 1770 and 298 ended unchanged.

Shares in Mitsubishi Corp. rose to all time highs; gaining 3.72% or 258.00 to 7,200.00. Shares in Mitsui & Co., Ltd. rose to all time highs; rising 3.31% or 184.00 to 5,748.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.01% to 20.53.

Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.10% or 0.07 to $71.58 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.38% or 0.29 to hit $76.38 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.21% or 4.05 to trade at $1,966.35 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.19% to 141.72, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 155.11.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 101.95.
