Wall Street is going down

The U.S. stock market fell on Friday and the major indices are ending the week in a downtrend.

Wall Street is going down. The Dow Jones is down 16 points, or 0.1%; the S&P 500 is down 0.2% and the NASDAQ Composite is down 0.6%.

Growth stocks are under pressure from rising U.S. Treasury yields. The yield on the benchmark 10-year bond was the highest in more than a month.

The S&P broke its two-week winning streak and the Dow and Nasdaq will close lower for the week. Growth stocks have been on the rise this year, particularly on hopes that the U.S. Federal Reserve is nearing the end of its interest rate hike cycle.

Wall Street is falling

Investors are expecting the Fed to hike another quarter of a percentage point at its March meeting. Several Fed officials said they see more rate hikes this year and that it could stay high for a long time.

Shares of LYFT Inc (NASDAQ:LYFT) fell 35% as it cut prices and said seasonal factors will affect its results this quarter. Investors are concerned that the company is lagging behind its larger rival Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER).

Shares of manufacturer Rubbermaid Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:NWL) fell 6.7% amid a lower-than-expected outlook.

The University of Michigan will release preliminary consumer sentiment data for February. Analysts expect the figure to rise from 64.9 to 65

Oil rose in price. WTI futures rose 1.3% to $79.08 a barrel and Brent futures rose 1.5% to $85.80 a barrel. Gold futures remained unchanged at $1,876.

Earlier, we reported that Goldman Sachs improved its 3-month outlook for the S&P 500.
