Number of oil and gas rigs in U.S. rises for first time in a month

The number of active oil and gas drilling rigs in the U.S. rose for the first time in four weeks. Oilfield services company Baker Hughes said Friday.
The league’s number of active oil and gas rigs, a leading indicator of production, rose by 5 units to 753 in the week April 15-21. The total number of active rigs was 58, or 8%, higher than a year ago.
The Baker Hughes data showed an increase of 3 oil rigs in the U.S. to 591, while gas rigs rose 2 gas rigs to 159.
