Microsoft “fined” in U.S. for cooperation with Russia and other countries

Microsoft has paid the U.S. Treasury Department $3 million to settle a conflict caused by violations of sanctions and export control restrictions by the IT corporation. It is reported by Reuters, citing a statement from the U.S. Treasury Department.
It is noted that Microsoft has paid a fine after it voluntarily reported more than 1,300 apparent violations of U.S. sanctions against Russia, Cuba, Iran and Syria. According to Reuters, most of the violations occurred between 2012 and 2019. They relate to Microsoft’s interaction with various businesses on the territory of Crimea.
The U.S. Treasury Department said that the conflict is completely over, because Microsoft’s violations were “not egregious and voluntarily disclosed.” Microsoft told reporters that it takes export controls and compliance with sanctions very seriously.
“After learning about the failed inspections and violations of several employees, we voluntarily reported them to the appropriate authorities,” the corporation said.
Allegedly, the violations were due to a lack of exhaustive customer information in the countries listed above.
Earlier we reported that the head of JPMorgan said that the bankruptcy of Silicon Valley Bank has increased the chances of U.S. recession.
